The General Election Commission (KPU) RI confirmed that the Information Recapitulation System (Sirekap) will still be used for the upcoming 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections.

Previously, KPU RI member Idham Holik said that the use of Sirekap in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections aims for public transparency. “We will use Sirekap, and the legal considerations from the Constitutional Court’s recent ruling will guide our evaluation and improvement of Sirekap for the regional elections on November 27, 2024,” said Idham when met by the media at the KPU RI Office in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.

Despite this, Doli still allowed the KPU to design Sirekap for the 2024 Regional Elections. However, whether it will be used or not, Commission II will give its view. This is in consideration of the commotion caused by Sirekap during the 2024 Election. “Feel free to prepare it, we will see. Don’t let it cause confusion and commotion like last time. Due to it, there were celebrations that didn’t happen. So, whether it will be used or not, it must be evaluated,” Doli said.

The KPU acknowledged some weaknesses in Sirekap. Hence, the KPU will address these weaknesses, including translating the vote counts from photo forms into numerical data. According to her, this aims to prevent any discrepancies between the vote counts recorded at polling stations and the results read by Sirekap using optical character recognition (OCR) technology.

According to Doli, from the beginning, Sirekap has been a concern for Commission II DPR RI. It was even initially not recommended for use in the 2024 Election. “In the early stages of discussing the Election, friends recommended not using Sirekap, but suddenly Sirekap appeared from the KPU. So let’s discuss it later and not say it will be used now,” Doli explained.

**PKS: 2 Coalitions in Jakarta Pilkada More Attractive, Higher Winning Chances** PKS Spokesperson Pipin Sopian stated that the party prefers two coalitions for the 2024 Jakarta gubernatorial election. This is because the chances of winning are greater as the election will not go to two rounds. “Yes, actually, 2 coalitions or 3 coalitions are interesting. For us, 2 coalitions are more attractive, the chances of our candidate winning are greater. If there are 3 coalitions, it might go to 2 rounds, we also calculate that,” stated Pipin at the Sahid Hotel, Jakarta, on June 25. Pipin mentioned that the opportunity to form a new coalition for the Jakarta gubernatorial election is still open. However, this needs to be discussed with other political parties. “All opportunities exist, well, I think we are only 1 party out of several parties, so we certainly have to talk together,” he stated.

Hasyim assured that if the Sirekap model for the 2024 Regional Elections is ready, it will be presented to the relevant commission in the DPR RI. “When it’s ready, we will report it in the hearing session with Commission II of the DPR,” said Hasyim.

Chairman of Bawaslu Malang City, Mochammad Arifudin, announced that the petitioner’s main points, namely the independent candidate pair Sam HC-Rizky Boncel, had been presented. However, the respondent’s response was postponed to Wednesday. “The respondent was not ready to provide their response. We have also not received the draft from the respondent,” stated Arifudin after the hearing. The dispute arose after the KPU’s administrative verification results declared that the Sam HC-Rizky Boncel pair had only submitted 40,689 support documents out of the minimum requirement of 48,882 supports needed to become independent candidates in the 2024 Pilkada. Meanwhile, according to Sam HC-Rizky Boncel, they had 54,000 supports. In a closed mediation at Bawaslu Malang City on Saturday, no agreement was reached, leading to the adjudication hearing.

The aim is to mislead voters and ultimately create division within the community. In the coming period, the public will be holding the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections (Pilkada). Just like the general elections, the Pilkada is also targeted for hoax dissemination. According to Fact Check Hub, here are some tips to avoid political hoaxes, especially for voters participating in the upcoming 2024 Pilkada.

The General Election (Pemilu) is a primary pillar in the implementation of people’s sovereignty in Indonesia. This process marks an important moment in the practice of democracy, where people have the right to elect their leaders directly, freely, secretly, honestly, and fairly.
