The Chairman of the Regional Leadership Council (DPW) of the National Awakening Party (Partai Kebangkitan Bangsa) DKI Jakarta, Hasbiallah Ilyas, announced that his party will continue to support Anies Baswedan as the gubernatorial candidate (calon gubernur) for Jakarta in 2024.

Previously, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) officially endorsed Anies Baswedan and Sohibul Iman as prospective governor (cagub) and deputy governor (cawagub) candidates for the 2024 Jakarta Regional Election.

“Mr. Ahok and Mr. Djarot are being urged to run in North Sumatra. This is interesting because North Sumatra needs significant changes,” said Eriko at the PDIP DPP Office, Central Jakarta, as quoted on Friday (17/5/2024).

The Heart of the Conflict

Otto Hasibuan critiqued the opposition’s strategy, arguing that their grievances related more to election procedure offenses– issues commonly resolved by the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) and potentially escalated to greater judicial authorities. This point of view underscores the Prabowo-Gibran group’s strategy of concentrating on the procedural facets of the disagreement.

Furthermore, Syaikhu is confident that the Anies-Sohibul Iman pair is a good match. According to Syaikhu, they complement each other well for the 2024 Jakarta Regional Election. “There is already a nickname for them, AMAN (Anies-Sohibul Iman). Whatever the name, (Anies-Sohibul Iman) have strong qualifications, are compatible, and can complement each other in leading Jakarta,” said Syaikhu.

Additionally, Syaikhu said his party also listened to various inputs from figures, clerics, habaib, interfaith leaders, religious leaders, intellectuals, and the people of DKI Jakarta. “The main considerations are candidates with good leadership experience in both executive and legislative branches, a proven track record, high credibility, capacity, and a high probability of winning,” he said.

PKB Jakarta proposes the duo of Anies Baswedan and the Chairman of the DKI Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) as well as a politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, for the 2024 Jakarta Pilkada. Besides Prasetyo Edi, Hasbiallah mentioned that Anies could also be paired with the Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Kaesang Pangarep or the Acting (Pj) Governor of DKI Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono.

According to Syaikhu, PKS must form a coalition with other political parties to support Anies-Sohibul Iman in the 2024 Jakarta Pilkada. “We will invite various other parties to support this pair,” he said. However, Syaikhu admitted that there has been no communication with PDIP leadership regarding the Jakarta Pilkada so far. “Officially, I haven’t (communicated with PDIP),” he said.

Wondering About Vice-Presidential Qualification

A prime focus of contention was the qualification of Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the vice-presidential candidate. Opponents examined his qualifications, an obstacle Hasibuan located easily dismissible. The defense’s self-confidence hinged on the toughness of their proof, rejecting claims versus Gibran’s candidateship as unproven.

Regarding the North Sumatra gubernatorial election, Ahok has already communicated with PDIP politician Landen Marbun and North Sumatra PDIP Chairman Rapidin Simbolon. Ahok is still waiting for the PDIP Rakernas to conclude.

Huda reminded that the Jakarta Regional Election is very fluid and nothing is fixed, including PKS as the winner of the Jakarta Election but unable to nominate candidates independently. “Nominating two figures as governor and deputy governor candidates requires a party that already has a golden ticket, which means 20 percent,” he said. “We know that PKS won the recent legislative elections. However, they haven’t reached 20 percent because they only have 18 seats, while 20 percent requires 22 seats,” Huda concluded.

Huda believes that PKS’s decision to immediately pair Anies Baswedan and Sohibul Iman is a mistake. “The problem is that pairing Mas Anies and Mas Sohibul Iman immediately is, in my view, a blunder,” he said. Huda mentioned that by pairing Anies Baswedan with Sohibul Iman, it closes the door for other political parties to join the coalition. “This will close the door for other parties to collaborate with this coalition,” he said.

The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) does not rule out forming a coalition with the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) after officially endorsing Anies Baswedan and Sohibul Iman as the gubernatorial and deputy gubernatorial candidates in the 2024 Jakarta Regional Election. “Yes, it is very possible (to form a coalition with PDIP),” said Syaikhu at the Opening of the Party Leadership School at the Grand Sahid Hotel, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

According to Syaikhu, PKS needs to form a coalition with other political parties to support Anies-Sohibul Iman in the 2024 Jakarta Regional Election. “We will invite other parties to support this pair,” he said.

Doli pointed out that Sirekap has been a focus for DPR RI Commission II from the start. It was initially not recommended for use in the 2024 General Elections. “Initially, during the General Elections discussions, it was recommended not to use Sirekap, but then KPU’s Sirekap emerged. So, let’s leave it for now and not say it will be used immediately,” explained Doli.
